10 square meters can accommodate a car or be a wonderfully shady spot where a man or woman can spend a nice time pondering how wonderful it would be if the trees could take root here.
For the repurposing of the parking spaces on the premises of the "Kreativ Quartier Schiffbauergasse" in Potsdam during the Convention of Baukultur 2024, we propose renting three trees: one plane tree and two linden.
In collaboration with the nursery Maike Kania in Potsdam, the trees are to be delivered with root balls so that they can be directly and stably placed on the pavement. This transforms the parking lot into a natural place to sit, lie down, and love. Seat cushions and simple reusable beverage crates invite people to linger. The 10 square meters of parking space should be perceived as a small piece of park and used accordingly by visitors.
The trees will be taken back by the nursery after the project is completed, but of course, we are also delighted if they find another place where they can actually take root over time.
The project received a special recognition at the Convention of Architectural Culture competition 2024. You can find more information and further results of the competition on the website of the Bundesstiftung Baukultur.
